Do I Need to File a Tax Return?
Not everyone needs to file a tax return but remember that filing a return is the only way to get money back.
Generally, three things determine whether you must file a tax return:
- Your filing status, whether you are single, married or filing jointly.
- Your age, whether you are under 65 or 65 and older.
- Your gross income for 2011.
Single

If your status is Married filing separately you Must file if your gross income is at least $3,700
Head of Household

Even if you do not need to file, you should file a federal income tax return to get any money back that you might be owed.
