Nontaxable Distributions

Definition of Nontaxable Distributions:

If you receive distributions from a company you own stock in (usually through dividends) you are not taxed on them because it is seen as a return of your invested capital. If you receive additional shares of stock they are not taxed until you sell them, unless you were given the option to receive cash instead, in which case you will be taxed.
