Mortgage Interest Credit

Definition of Mortgage Interest Credit:

A credit of up to $2,000 available to people who take out a new mortgage to purchase a home. The credit is for interest on the mortgage and you must reduce your itemized mortgage interest deduction by the same amount. Credits can be carried forward 3 years if they are not used. You can calculate your credit on Form 8396.
