Liquidation Distributions

Definition of Liquidation Distributions:

If a company goes out of business they will liquidate all of their assets in order to pay back their creditors. As a creditor, anything you receive that is more than your basis is taxable. If the company fails to pay you back in full, or at all, you can claim a loss. Liquidation distributions are reported on Schedule D your 1040.
