Schedule CR

Credit for Tax Paid to Other States

Schedule CR is a supplemental schedule to IL-1040. This means that it is not mandatory to file this schedule, and if you do file this schedule, it should be attached to a filled out IL-1040. If you are a Illinois resident who works in another state (and live in a state other than Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, or Wisconsin) you should file a Schedule CR. The reason you should file ScheduleCR is that on IL-1040 you are required to report all income you earned. However if you work in a state other than Illinois that taxes income earned it, this income would be face dual taxation if Illinois taxed it also. Thus Illinois award a credit for income that was taxed by other states. Schedule CR allows Illinois to know what income they need to award this credit for.
