Form 540
California Individual Resident Income Tax Return (Long)
Form 540 is the longest form used to file California income tax returns. There are no requirements that you need to meet to file Form 540. Thus this is the form to use if you didn't meet the requirements for Form 540 2EZ or Form 540A. Form 540 allows you to claim the most adjustments, deductions, and credits. Claiming more adjustments, deductions, and credits reduces your tax liability by increasing your refund.
