Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return
If you need additional time to file your return past April 15th (see Tax Deadlines), you are going to want to file 4868. Please note 4868 gives you a six month extension on how long you have to file your taxes, not how long you have to pay your taxes (for additional information see Automatic IRS Filing Extension).
