Form 1040NR

Non-Resident Alien Income Tax Return

1040NR is the longer version of 1040NR-EZ. 1040NR allows U.S. non-residents to file their federal returns. There are no requirements you need to meet to file your return with Form 1040NR. To see if you meet the requirements to file your return with the shorter 1040NR-EZ see page 1 of the 1040NR-EZ Instructions. If you do not meet these requirements you will need to file your return with 1040NR. If you do meet these requirements you may still want to file your return with 1040NR because 1040NR is more thorough and thus allows you to claim more tax credits, deductions, and adjustments thus lowering your tax liability and increasing your tax refund.

To know if you are a non-resident alien of the U.S. see Topic 851 and to know if you are require to file a non-resident return see Taxation of Nonresident Aliens.
