Estimated Tax for Individuals
If you made income from self-employment, interest, dividends, rent, or alimony you had income that was not subject to withhold. Income not subject to withhold requires you make estimated tax payments. If you need to make estimated tax payments you need to use Form 1040ES to find out what the size of these payments will be. Form 1040ES is the only form for figuring out estimated tax payments. If you had taxable income but taxes were not withheld this income will also need to be claimed with 1040ES.
